From Magellan Technical Support: With software version 4.26, you can beam addresses to your
Roadmate through its infrared port. You will need either a Palm or Pocket PC
PDA in order to beam addresses. However, you cannot beam addresses from your
Roadmate to another device.
Beaming the address displayed on the Palm (one at a
time) is very straight forward - I learned the following by trial and error -
As a minimum, you should have the First Name field, the Address field (street
number and name), the City field and the State field with appropriate data
before beaming to the Roadmate 700 -

Notes:
Fields are mapped:
·
The Palm Last Name is
concatenated with the Palm First Name separated by a space and appears in the
Roadmate Name Field (top field in the Edit Panel) -
For appearance you might want to append a comma to
the last name in the Palm Last Name field if you'd like to use the last name as
the 'Sort Key' on the Roadmate - the entry would appear in the Roadmate as
'Hemingway, Ernest' [no quotes] - of course the entry in the Palm would be
'Hemingway,' and 'Ernest' [no quotes] -
- Or -
You might want to leave the Palm Last Name blank and
enter the first name and last name separated by a space in the Palm First Name
field if you'd like to use the first name as the 'Sort Key' on the Roadmate -
the entry would appear in the Roadmate as "Ernest Hemingway' [no quotes] -
·
The Palm Address should
contain the street number and the street name -
·
The Palm City should
contain the city name -
·
The Palm State should
contain the either the standard 2 letter abbreviation or the state name spelled
out - the Roadmate will change the spelled out name to the standard 2 letter
abbreviation -
·
The Palm Zip Code will
be appended to the standard 2 letter state abbreviation - the Zip Code is
apparently none functional - I attempted to add a 'wrong' city name with the
correct Zip Code and the Roadmate couldn't find the street - I also attempted
to beam an address with the city name blank, the correct state and zip code and
received a beaming error on the Roadmate -
In Maryland, with a few exceptions, local governments
are County organized - Geographic areas (like Glen Burnie or Severn) are
defined by US Post Offices, but there is no City/Town of Glen Burnie or Severn
per se - both are in Anne Arundel County which supplies the governmental
functions (police, fire, trash collection, taxes, etc) - in the Roadmate, if
you add an address by state and then add a street, the Roadmate gives two
choices, the correct 'city' or the county, if the street is unique to a county
- or if the street is in several counties, it will' display a list of counties
to pick from -
One of the Palm telephone number fields is mapped to
the information field (at the bottom of the Edit Panel) in the Roadmate -
With just a mobile
telephone number entered on the Palm, that telephone number is displayed with
nothing appended -
With just a home
telephone number entered on the Palm, the home telephone number is displayed
with '(Home)' [no quotes] -
With just a work
telephone number entered on the Palm, the work telephone number is displayed
with '(Work)' [no quotes] -
With a work and a
mobile telephone number entered on the Palm, the work telephone number is
displayed with '(Work)' [no quotes] -
With a work and a
home telephone number entered on the Palm, the home telephone number is
displayed with '(Home)' [no quotes] -
With a home and a
mobile telephone number entered on the Palm, the home telephone number is
displayed with '(Home)' [no quotes] -
With a work, mobile
and a home telephone number entered on the Palm, the home telephone number is
displayed with '(Home)' [no quotes] -
Beaming Multiple Addresses to the Roadmate 700
This is the method I tried first, not knowing any
better - The results from beaming multiple addresses is 'weird' - so weird that
I don't think it is a viable method - I documented my results in case someone
else is interested in multiple address beaming -
In essence you can beam all the addresses in a
category -
If there is only one address in the category, then
the results are as described above - the obvious question is why bother
isolating an address in a category, it would be easier to just beam that
address -
·
Set Palm to Beam (if
necessary - see above)
·
Select the Palm Address
Book
·
Home Key
·
Tap desired Address
·
Select the Category and
Beam the addresses to the Roadmate
·
Tap the category down
arrow and Tap the desired category
·
Tap Address at the top
left
·
Tap Beam Category
·
Addresses are displayed
in the 'Edit Panel' on the Roadmate
·
Edit the name field and
the information field (telephone number) for each address and Tap Save on the
Roadmate 700
·
Set Palm to Synchronize
(if desired - see above)
Notes:
You will have to edit the name (top field in the
Roadmate Edit Panel) and the information (bottom field in the Roadmate Edit
Panel) on the Roadmate for each address
Say you beam three addresses
for Dickens, Charles; Longfellow, Henry and Hemingway, Ernest -
Each address will display
in turn in the Roadmate 'Edit Panel' -
The first address (for
Dickens) will have Ernest Hemingway's name displayed for the Roadmate name
field and Ernest Hemingway’s telephone number displayed in the information
field - you will have to edit the name to Dickens, Charles and the information
to contain the telephone number for Charles Dickens - save on the Roadmate
The second address (for
Longfellow) will have Ernest Hemingway's name displayed for the Roadmate name
field and Ernest Hemingway’s telephone number displayed in the information
field - you will have to edit the name to Longfellow, Henry and the information
to contain the telephone number for Henry Longfellow - save on the Roadmate
The third address (for
Hemingway) will have Ernest Hemingway's name displayed for the Roadmate name
field and Ernest Hemingway’s telephone number displayed in the information field
- save on the Roadmate
It appears that if any of the Palm entries have a
home telephone number listed, then '(Home)' [no quotes] will be appended to the
telephone number displayed in the Roadmate information field -
It appears that if any of the Palm entries have a
mobile telephone number listed, the last Palm mobile telephone number will be
displayed in the Roadmate information field - appended with '(Home)' if there
is a home telephone number entered in any of the addresses beamed -
I put this information together from trial and error
- more weirdness is possible - It is also possible that better methods for
entering multiple addresses are available -

Notes:
I added a few address by hand to the Palm address
book - I use KeySuite and synchronize to Outlook for my Contacts, Calendar,
Tasks and Notes. Therefore the Palm Address Book is available to hold addresses
used exclusively on my Roadmate 700. I can use the Palm Desktop for 'loading'
the Palm Address Book which is easier than tapping in address on either the
Palm or the Roadmate -
